FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

ABUA’s 2020 Wildwood Beach Ultimate Tournament Update—Wildwood28 Tournament Cancelled

ABUA’s (American Beach Ultimate Association) major tournament, Wildwood28, was scheduled to take place July 25-26 2020.  After extensive meetings since before opening registration in May, ABUA is announcing to all members, teams and athlete-participants that Wildwood 28 will unfortunately be canceled.

This year has presented new challenges for everyone with the uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, shelter-at-home orders, social distancing, and staged re-openings.  We can not confidently proceed with our preparations for the tournament, as guidance from the state governing bodies has not been forthcoming.

Wildwood tournament organizer Len Dagit said “Unless the protocols are in place and we have permission to do it, we won’t have the tournament.”

The ABUA is returning 100% of the fees collected from the tournament back to the registrants.

Additionally, ABUA is putting out a plea for support.  ABUA is a not-for-profit company that supports the city of Wildwood and a wide range of charities, including PADA Youth Ultimate, Edgely Field restoration (home of PADA); as well as organizations in support of veterans and first responders.  ABUA is asking for past and present participants to consider donating to these worthy causes, and will contribute matching funds.

ABUA looks forward to returning to the beach next summer.  Wildwood29 is scheduled for July 24-25, 2021.
